A Dahlonega man faces numerous charges after a pursuit that stretched from western Habersham County almost into Helen Saturday afternoon.

Sgt. Kris Hall of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office HEAT Unit checked a red Ford Explorer at 73 mph on Ben T. Huiet Highway (Ga. 255 Alternate) at 4:29 p.m. and attempted to pull him over for speeding.

The vehicle failed to yield and fled, with speeds reaching in excess of 100 mph at one point, officials say.

According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Hall attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the pursuit several times before entering White County.

“The driver of the fleeing vehicle swerved in an attempt to run Hall off the road,” a press release from the sheriff’s office states.

When the chase reached Ga. 75 at the Indian mound, Hall was able to get in front of the fleeing vehicle with another deputy and a Special Operations lieutenant right behind him.

The lieutenant was able to PIT the vehicle on the bridge before Nora Mill to prevent the speeding driver from entering holiday weekend traffic in Helen.
