Cyclist and teen dirt biker killed in separate accidents in Northeast Georgia

fatal accident

Accidents have killed at least three people on Northeast Georgia area roads during this long Labor Day holiday weekend.

An SUV struck and killed a man pushing his bicycle on Historic Highway 17 in Stephens County early Sunday. State troopers identify the deceased cyclist as 53-year-old Richard Dale Crowe of Hartwell.

Crowe was walking north with his bike in the northbound lane of the highway when a northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee struck him from behind. 25-year-old Tyrik Tremayn Combs of Martin was driving the Jeep, the Georgia State Patrol says. He was not injured in the crash. The coroner pronounced Crowe dead at the scene.

Elsewhere, in Hart County, a 14-year-old boy died in a dirt bike accident Saturday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the teen was traveling south on Beaver Dam Farm Road behind a four-wheeler carrying three juveniles. As the four-wheeler turned left onto Lafevre Road, the dirt bike ran into it and traveled off the roadway into a ditch. The dirt bike driver died at the scene.

Two of the three juveniles on the four-wheeler sustained minor injuries. Hart County EMS treated them at the scene and released them to their parents.

The state patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the crash investigation.

In addition, a Gainesville man died in a crash early Sunday on Brown’s Bridge Road.
