Police say someone in Hall County gave a phone to an inmate in Lagrange that had pornographic images of children on it. On Feb. 17, Hall County Sheriff’s investigators received a cyber tip through the GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. That led them to Charles Ray Dye Jr., 32, who was an inmate at the Lagrange Transitional Center.
According to the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that a Hall County resident gave Dye a prepaid phone. Hall County investigators informed LaGrange Police. Officers met with Dye in prison on Feb. 25 and began processing the phone.
Police say it was legal for Dye to have the phone based on his incarceration status at the center, but what they allegedly found on the phone is illegal.
“Upon review of this device, numerous still photos and videos were located in a ‘secured application’ depicting various children under the age of 16 engaged in various sexual acts,” LaGrange Police state in a news release.
Police arrested Dye for violating the Computer or Electronic Pornography and Child Exploitation Act of 2007.
Following his arrest, police say Dye was transferred to a more secure GDC facility and is likely to face more charges.
