
A man wanted for the assault and rape of a Columbus State University student is now in custody. According to jail records, Hosni Batebawia was free from the Muscogee County jail for less than 24 hours before the brutal attack in Columbus.
Columbus State University Police received a report of an assault of a student in the city parking deck that serves the RiverPark Campus. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended according to a spokesperson for the University.
Batebawia was released from jail September 26,2025 the same day as the assault on charges of public indecency, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers and terroristic threats and acts according to jail records.
He is now facing four charges related to the incident in the parking deck including Rape, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Aggravated Assault and Hijacking a motor vehicle.
