Criminal street gang charges added in Gainesville murder investigation

The Gainesville Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Gang Task Force brought charges of criminal street gang activities in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Gwinett County teen Jaishawn Overstreet.

Overstreet was found murdered at the Ridgecrest Apartments on Saturday, April 27, when the Gainesville Police responded to a mid-afternoon shooting. The 16-year-old teen allegedly traveled to Gainesville for what investigators described as criminal activity.

Ja’Quez Jeremiah Sims, 19, of Gainesville, and Quaran Jamir Jackson, 18, of Gillesville, who were previously arrested for the alleged murder of Overstreet, have now been charged with multiple felony counts of participation in criminal street gang activity according to police reports.

According to various statewide news sources, Quaran Jamir Jackson was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession of a firearm to murder in February of 2023 at the age of 17 in the shooting of Gabriel Ledford, 19, of Gainesville. Jackson was charged with murder as related to Overstreet’s death.

Sims was also charged with felony malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault.
