Crews clear roads, restore power after storm

Wednesday’s afternoon storms had road crews and power crews working into the evening to clear roads and restore power.

The storm brought down trees across Habersham County. Limbs and branches could be seen in people’s yards and debris was scattered in the roadway on many roads in northern Habersham County. Trees fell across Hardman Road blocking the roadway for a short period of time near the bridge at North Georgia Turf. New Liberty Road was hit hard by high winds that brought down numerous trees and power lines.

Habersham County Public Works road crews were out clearing trees on New Liberty Road. One employee stated that they had cleared several trees on that one road and were heading to clear another.

Linemen contracted with Habersham EMC, were just down the road from the county road crew preparing to repair power lines that were snapped when several trees fell across New Liberty Road.

On Historic US 441 at Glen Hardman Road, Habersham EMC crews were also working to restore power in the Turnerville area where large trees broke power lines and power line supports on poles. The road was closed for a period of time while crews repaired the poles and restrung the power lines.
