Highway 17 South in Stephens County reopens following wreck

A section of Highway 17 southbound in Stephens County that closed following a collision between an SUV and an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Highway 17 and Historic Highway 17 is now reopen, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews, including sheriff’s deputies, Georgia State Patrol and EMS units responded to the scene Wednesday, May 14. One person, who hasn’t been identified, was injured in the crash and has been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, both southbound lanes of Highway 17 were shut down while first responders worked to secure the area and removed debris from the roadway. All southbound traffic was detoured via Historic Highway 17.
