Couple injured in crash with Rabun County deputy

The Georgia State Patrol says a Michigan driver will be charged with failure to yield in a wreck involving a Rabun County deputy. The crash happened around 6 p.m. Monday, January 17, on US 441/GA 15 in Clayton.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 70-year-old Robin Wayne Jousma of Ewen, Michigan, was attempting to cross over the highway from the Advance Auto Parts store when he pulled into the path of a northbound sheriff’s patrol pickup. Deputy Riley Owens of Tiger was driving the 2011 Chevrolet truck. The pickup struck the 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis Jousma was driving on the passenger side.

The crash injured Jousma and his wife, 61-year-old Patricia Ann Jousma, also of Ewen. Rabun County EMS transported both of them to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

Deputy Owens sustained minor injuries, but was not transported, says GSP Post 7 Commander Donnie Sadler.
