A couple who fled from a license and sobriety checkpoint in Lumpkin County are now in jail on drug charges.
Authorities say 31-year old Patrice Michelle Turbeville of Flowery Branch and 49-year old Anthony Dwayne Ferguson of Gainesville fled a checkpoint on Burnt Stand Road on Friday. After the couple refused to stop, Georgia State troopers and Lumpkin Sheriff’s deputies pursued and arrested them.
According to Ken Howard with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, officers seized approximately 81 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from inside the vehicle. They also confiscated a loaded firearm.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $8,000.
Turbeville and Ferguson are both charged with methamphetamine trafficking. Additional charges are pending.
