A Mt. Airy couple is in jail for allegedly stealing cash from a safe at a convenience store where the wife worked in Clarkesville.
Cleo Bass and her husband Joseph Michael Bass were both arrested Thursday. Authorities say the pair allegedly stole $325 from an unlocked safe at the BP Food Mart at 310 Toccoa Highway.
According to Habersham County Sheriff’s Office PIO Lt. Floyd Canup, deputies responded to an alarm at the store around 3:30 a.m. Canup says deputies arrived to find a “non-forced entry” burglary had occurred.
The Bass’ were identified as suspects early in the investigation. She was arrested on the scene. He was arrested some 12 hours later at 3:45 p.m. at the Wendy’s fast food restaurant in Clarkesville. Canup says the money was recovered at “an unknown location.”
Cleo Bass is charged with burglary and driving on a suspended license. Joseph Bass is charged with burglary.
