Cornelia to discuss millage, appoint new Ward 1 commissioner Tuesday

Three candidates seek appointment to the Cornelia Commission’s Ward 1 chair following the sudden death of Commissioner Wesley Dodd. The city commission will appoint one to the position and discuss the city’s millage rate at their upcoming commission meeting.

Two weeks after Dodd’s death, the city put out a notice for eligible citizens to apply to fill the empty Ward 1 commissioner position. Applications closed on Monday, Sept. 27.

Candidates for the Ward 1 commissioner seat include 2019 commissioner candidate Mark Reed, as well as Cornelia citizens Jeff Wilson and City of Gainesville Civil Engineer Tracy Robar. The commission is scheduled to make an appointment to the position at their meeting on Tuesday.

The commission will also further discuss the millage rate for the upcoming year at their meeting. City Manager Dee Anderson has suggested the city commission leave the millage rate as-is at 8.5 mills.

The City of Cornelia Commission will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Cornelia City Hall in the Municipal Courtroom.
