Cornelia will begin its annual “Christmas in the Park”celebration next week. Thousands of people from miles away and those here at home will gather at the Community House at Cornelia City Park to take part in what has become a tradition in the City of Cornelia.
“Christmas in the Park”will have hayrides through itsspectacular light display, make-and-take crafts in the Elf Workshop, marshmallow roasts, and visits with Santa. Cornelia has commissioned local photographer, J. Colby Moore Photography, to take pictures with Santa. He is offering a free download with option to purchase for all visitors.
Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby said, “We have used him in the past, and he just does an excellent job for us on a consistent basis.” Cornelia also features something no other cities have in Northeast Georgia. “The ice skating is the most popular of the activities we have,” said Owensby. The city hires an ice skating company from Atlanta to come up every year and let the children, young and old, experience what it’s like to ice skate.
Admission and most activities at “Christmas in the Park”are free. Hayrides are $1 each and ice skating is $5 each.
The event runs Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17 from 5-9 p.m., Friday, December 18 from 5-11 p.m., and Saturday, December 19 from 11 a.m.-11p.m.
Visits with Santa will be Thursday, December 17-Saturday, December 19 from 6-9 p.m. only.
“Christmas in the Park”will be held at the Cornelia City Park located directly behind the Community House at 601 Wyly St, Cornelia, GA 30531.
