Cornelia Supports Local Humane Society

The City of Cornelia and Two Mauds, Inc. have have partnered together with the Habersham Humane Society in order to help Cornelia residents get their pets spayed and neutered for free.

City Marshal and Code Enforcement Director Jeff Barron said this is a good way for Cornelia to decrease the stray pet population in the city limits.“We are thrilled to have their support and can match their gift of 1,000 dollars through the Two Mauds Foundation. This gift will provide services for low income residents in the city limits of Cornelia and will help to reduce the number of unwanted litter,” President of the Humane Society Terri Todd said.

Two Mauds, Inc. is a program to get towns, cities and counties to set aside funds in the budget for spay/neuter services by matching 50 percent of the amount spent on spay neuters.

The City of Cornelia donated 1,000 dollars to the Habersham Humane Society. Two Mauds, Inc. then matched the same amount and sent a check to the Humane Society. The goal of the partnership with the Habersham Humane Society is to allow more pets to be spayed and neutered, and to help reduce the number of homeless or abandoned animals in Cornelia.

Community Development Manager of Cornelia Jessie Owensby said, “Our Special Projects Coordinator, Mona Painter, did a great job getting this partnership together and we are happy that we can offer this free service to our Cornelia residents.”
