Cornelia sets public hearing dates on millage rate

Cornelias new municipal complex opened this year.

The Cornelia City Commission on Wednesday announced it intends to increase 2020 property taxes by .04 percent over the rollback millage rate.

Commissioners plan to keep the current millage rate at 8.5 mills, but due to inflation, some property owners could see an increase in their tax bills.

Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase. The hearings are set to take place in the New City Hall Court Room located at 181 Larkin Street as follows at 2 p.m. on October 19 and at 12 noon and 6 p.m. on October 29.
