The Christmas lights are on in Cornelia’s City Park and soon Santa Claus will arrive!
Now that Thanksgiving is over, the City of Cornelia is getting into the Christmas spirit. The city switched on the lights to its Christmas in the Park driving tour Thanksgiving night. The free Christmas light display is now open nightly from 6-11 p.m. through January 1, 2018.
In mid-December, Cornelia will play holiday host to thousands during its three-night Christmas in the Park celebration.
The annual event will be held at the Cornelia Community House and Cornelia City Park from Thursday, December 14 through Saturday, December 16. It will be open nightly from 5-10 p.m.
Christmas in the Park activities
Christmas in the Park will feature hayrides through the light display in Cornelia City Park, marshmallow roasts, and visits with Santa. Local photographer J. Colby Moore has again been commissioned to take pictures with Santa. He’s offering a free download with option to purchase for all visitors.
A synthetic ice-skating rink also will be set up in the park to give children, young and old alike, an opportunity to experience what it’s like to glide on skates. “The ice skating is the most popular of the activities we have,” says Cornelia’s Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby.
The Holiday Market is back by popular demand this year. The market features local craft vendors. It will be open from 6-9 p.m. nightly during the three-day event.
Premiere Dance and Performing Arts Academy (PDPA) will host live entertainment in the main room of the Community House nightly from 6-9 p.m. Night one will be a recital of all the classes. Night two will include a fundraiser for PDPA, and night three will be a womanless beauty pageant. Contact Janet Hayes for more information at 706-778-2105.
Admission to Christmas in the Park, visits with Santa and live entertainment are free.
The Cornelia Community House and park are located at 601 Wyly Street, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
