A taxi driver accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in Cornelia is now in police custody. Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Lester Hoyte, 35, of Toccoa, on Tuesday.
Hoyte was being sought in connection with a rape that was reported two months ago.
On February 12, Cornelia Police responded to the Habersham County Shopping Center to a report of a sexual assault. The girl told officers around 6 p.m. a taxi driver offered her a ride home and she accepted. She said the driver then took to her to a secluded location and raped her.
Police charged Hoyte with rape, false imprisonment, sodomy, and battery. Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith says more charges may be filed. Police believe it was an isolated incident. The case remains under investigation.
