Cornelia Police officers are handing out free cleats

Cornelia Police got a boost to their Police Assisted Learners program this week. Bobby Patel, owner of the Appletree Inn and Skyland Motel, donated several pairs of new cleats for young athletes in need.

Cornelia Police began the P.A.L. program in 2014 in partnership with Cornelia Elementary School. Officers spend time with students each week in an effort to demystify the role of police in the community and to make young people more comfortable around officers.

The department took to their official Facebook page Wednesday to thank Patel and let folks know that they are giving the shoes away to young folks in Cornelia who can’t afford to buy a pair of their own.

They have them in sizes 4 through 6 and quantities are limited so they’ll be handed out “first come, first served.”

If you or someone you know has a child in Cornelia who might benefit from this free offer of proper athletic footwear, stop by the Cornelia Police Department at 163 Larkin St. during regular business hours to find out more.

Again, these shoes are for young athletes who cannot afford cleats and only one pair will be given out per family.
