A 27-year-old driver was transported to the hospital with suspected serious injuries after a single-vehicle wreck Friday on Highway 115 near Demorest.

The wreck happened near Fairview School Road around 6:22 p.m. on April 5.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s preliminary crash report, Benjamin Slaton was eastbound in a Ford F-150 when he ran off the road. The truck crashed head-on into a power pole and an embankment at a creek.

Habersham County authorities say Slaton was trapped inside the truck. First responders and deputies freed him from the wreckage. An ambulance rushed him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

“Several other vehicles sustained minor damage as a utility line fell across GA 115, but none of the occupants of those was injured,” says Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

The wreck shut down the highway near the crash site for 7 hours as Habersham EMC crews worked to replace the broken power pole and repair damaged utilities.

No charges were filed.
