An encounter with a stray dog when he was 5 years old sparked something unusual in Landon Ramey of Cornelia. “He asked what happened to them (strays),” explains mom Jade, “and I told him the humane society would pick him up.”
She also explained how much the group depends on donations, both financially and in the form of food for the animals in their care. Landon decided he should help with that so, last year, he and his parents took some food over to the John B. Gesbocker Animal Shelter in Clarkesville.
This year, as he was about to turn 6, Landon surprised his mom, “He asked for dog food and cat food for his birthday,” Jade laughs. “He told everyone.”
According to his mom, Landon got more than 500 pounds of pet food plus assorted treats and then delivered his “presents” to the shelter.
Jade tells Now Habersham that she and husband Adam did buy Landon a single birthday toy to go along with all that pet food but says the trip to the shelter was the highlight of his special day. “He loves that they let him give the dog treats and pet the cats when we drive him up there.”
