Cornelia announces road closures ahead of Big Red Apple Festival

On Saturday, thousands of people are expected to gather in downtown Cornelia for the annual Big Red Apple Festival. The festival runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on September 24.

In preparation for the event, the city will be closing off some roads. Clarkesville Street will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 23. Other roads listed below will close at 12:01 a.m on Saturday, September 24:

  • Irvin Street
  • Hodges Street
  • Appletree Alley public parking lot
  • Depot parking lot
  • Larkin Street
  • Front Street

Festival parking will be located as follows:

  • Public Parking below Fenders Diner on Wells Street.
  • Public Parking at City Hall on Foreacre and Larkin Streets
  • Public Parking on South Main Street across from the Cornelia Fire Station.
  • North Main Credit Union
  • Cornelia Library
  • Grassy lot on Stovall Street
  • Department of Labor on Hodges Street.
  • Public parking behind on Stovall behind Renew Dental.

According to festival organizers, all on-street parking will be considered Handicapped Parking on Saturday and all others will be issued citations.

Cars entering the car show will be allowed to enter the Depot parking lot via the north end of Clarkesville Street at the intersection of Chattahoochee Street and MLK Boulevard. No other vehicles will be allowed in the Depot parking lot.
