Convicted felon arrested on stalking, drug and weapon charges

A man accused of violating a temporary protection order (TPO) got slapped with a host of other charges after authorities say they found drugs in his car and a weapon in his home.

29-year-old Jose Cabrera Jr. was stopped after fleeing from authorities who were called to a house at 1171 McDonald Circle in Commerce May 10.

Banks County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Cabrera for driving with a suspended license and violation of the TPO. At the time of his arrest deputies discovered approximately 8 ounces of marijuana in a vacuum seal bag in Cabrera’s car, according to authorities.

Banks County officials executed a search warrant at the McDonald Circle residence and at Cabrera’s house at 168 Crestwood Drive in Commerce. They reportedly found another 5 ounces of marijuana, packaging material, scales and other drug related material at the McDonald Circle address. Inside Cabrera’s house, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) says agents located multiple firearms, ammunition, magazines and drug related objects.

Cabrera was additionally charged with aggravated stalking and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in Banks County. Jackson County authorities charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Cabrera was transported to the Banks County Detention Center.

ARDEO says the investigation continues.
