The U.S. Forest Service conducted a controlled burn Saturday in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area near the Habersham and Stephens County line.
Fire managers on the ground burned 353 acres located approximately 8 miles southwest of Toccoa and 5 miles east of Cornelia, according to the USFS. Despite windy conditions, there were no reports of any problems.
The forestry service routinely conducts controlled burns to reduce fire hazards and enhance wildlife habitat.
