CLEVELAND, Ga. — Concerned citizens are invited to gather in support of U.S. military veterans at a public rally this Friday, June 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Freedom Park in Cleveland. The “Unite for Veterans” event is being held to raise awareness and protest proposed federal policy changes that organizers say will jeopardize the health and well-being of millions of former service members.

Citing planned cuts by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that would eliminate 83,000 jobs—nearly 17 percent of its workforce—organizers warn that veterans could soon face longer wait times and reduced access to care. Veterans, who make up nearly 30 percent of the VA’s workforce, would also be disproportionately affected by the layoffs.

Additionally, proposed budget cuts to Medicaid and SNAP threaten critical food and medical support for an estimated two million veterans nationwide.

The June 6 rally will include live music from local Americana duo Mayberry Wine, guest speakers, voter registration opportunities, and candidate information tents. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, personal-size umbrellas for shade, signs, and American flags. Water will be provided, and food is welcome. Families and pets are invited to participate.

Admission is free, and community members are asked to RSVP in advance at: mobilize.us/georgiademocrats/event/789765

The event is sponsored by the Georgia 9th Congressional District Democrats, the Georgia 9th District Democratic Women’s Network, and the Fannin County Democratic Women’s organization.
