Commissioner Crawford announces re-election bid

District 4 Habersham County Commissioner Natalie Crawford is running re-election. The current commission vice-chair issued a press release on Feb. 6 announcing she’s seeking a third term.

“Representing and serving the citizens of Habersham is one of my greatest passions,” says Crawford. “These past seven years, we’ve accomplished far too much to lose our momentum.”

Crawford, a Republican, was first elected to the commission in 2012. She touts her work to improve ISO ratings and reduce home insurance premiums among her many accomplishments. She says she’s currently working on a new plan “that will help further reduce insurance premiums in other areas of the county.”

The Habersham County native helped spearhead the creation of the county’s economic development council. She and her fellow commissioners have also overseen a significant expansion of the Habersham County Airport. Commissioner Crawford says she took a leading role in negotiations with Northeast Georgia Health System regarding its acquisition of Habersham Medical Center.

Crawford stresses her commitment to “forward-thinking, proactive governance.” She says as a result of her efforts, Habersham conducted its first-ever corridor overlay studies to understand and inform economic growth.

“Making sure that economic development opportunities serve our community instead of putting further pressure on our limited resources and infrastructure has been at the heart of all my decisions,” says Crawford. “Those studies directed our focus and efforts to build-out the industrial park and will drive job growth in our county.”

During Commissioner Crawford’s time on the commission, several new county facilities have opened—the courthouse in 2013, and the new county administration building, senior center, and airport terminal in 2019.

“These facilities demonstrate my commitment to our County, our people, and some of our community’s greatest resources—our seniors, the County’s dedicated staff, and our area businesses,” said Crawford. “Our strategic growth has injected an additional $150 million into the tax digest over the last four years.”

Crawford serves on the Board of Managers for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and on the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission.

She is a graduate of Habersham Central High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Piedmont College in Demorest.
