La Hacienda Mexican restaurant in Commerce will be temporarily closed for an indefinite amount of time after a fire on Saturday night damaged the kitchen, ceiling and roof of the building.
Nobody was inside the business at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, and were able to extinguish the flames before they engulfed the structure. Now Habersham has reached out to Banks County fire officials for more information.
Employees of La Hacienda, established in 1988, were at the business Sunday afternoon to salvage foods and supplies that survived the fire.
One of the owners, Robert Fuentes, told Now Habersham the fire began in the kitchen before the flames spread up through the ceiling. Fuentes said La Hacienda has started the process of damage assessment and a potential insurance claim, though he’s unsure how long the business could remain closed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
