If you are still making plans for Labor Day Weekend, you will want to include exploring the art and craft of folk pottery. The Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia is gearing up for its 16th annual Folk Pottery Show & Arts Festival.
The event is located at the Sautee Nacoochee Center at 283 Highway 255 North, ¼ mile north of the intersection with Georgia Highway 17, and four miles southeast of Alpine Helen on Saturday, August 31 from 10 AM-4 PM. There is no cost and admission covers the festival, the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia, and other areas.
It is an opportunity to observe and purchase pieces by Northeast Georgia folk potters set up in Sautee Naccochee Center’s historic gym. You will have the chance to cast a vote for your favorite piece made by a local folk potter. Live potting demonstrations will take place in the museum throughout the day.
Also displayed are heritage art vendors who will display and sell their wares across the lawn of the SNC campus. The Museum’s fundraising raffle gives participants a chance to win beautiful pieces created by festival artists.
The Heritage Site features a restored 1850s cabin from the northeast Georgia mountains. Those attending the event can explore the cabin and observe a blacksmith demonstrating on an open forge. Representatives from The Foxfire Museum and Hardman Farm State Historic Site will also be on-site demonstrating folk crafts.
In the Cultural Center, you can visit two gallery shops, which feature the work of artists in a variety of media who live within fifty miles. The show in the gallery shops and invitational gallery is entitled Glamour in the Galleries which will feature the work of the Chestatee Artists group.
There will be musicians to play an old-time music jam on the outdoor stage along with Food vendors.
