In heartbreaking fashion, both Banks County and Jefferson dropped their first game in Columbus in Saturday morning action. Both had to battle back in the loser’s bracket, which they did to earn a chance to play for a state title. Both came up just short, but walked away with state runner-up finishes after fantastic seasons.
BANKS COUNTY
The Lady Leopards (29-11) fell in an 8-7 extra-inning game against Social Circle, pushing them to the loser’s bracket. Facing elimination, the girls defeated Monticello 5-2 to have a shot of redemption against Social Circle.
Needing to win twice to win it all, Banks County was shut down by Social Circle in a Region 8-AA State Finals, 9-1. Banks County was third place overall last year and this year fell just two games shy of winning the whole thing.
