Alleged Apalachee shooter mugshot released; father has been arrested

The investigation is continuing into the deadly mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder. On Thursday, authorities released the mug shot of the shooting suspect, Colt Gray.

Gray is accused of killing two teachers and two students and injuring nine others in the shooting spree on September 4. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said that the nine injured which included 2 teachers and 7 students, would make a full recovery.

The 14-year-old Gray surrendered when engaged by School Resource Officers inside the high school, according to a press release from the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

Colt’s father, Colin Gray, has also been arrested and charged. According to authorities, he admitted to purchasing the weapon that was used in the shooting as a holiday gift for his son.

He faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.

The accused shooter’s aunt told reporters her nephew had been struggling with mental health issues. He “was begging for help from everybody around him,” Annie Brown told The Washington Post. “The adults around him failed him.”
