Collins: There was no collusion. There is no constitutional crisis.

Special counsel Robert Mueller did not find Donald Trump’s campaign or associates conspired with Russia, Attorney General William Barr said Sunday.

Barr issued a summary on the principal conclusions of the two-year long investigation.

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement after receiving Attorney General Barr’s letter.

“For two years, Special Counsel Mueller conducted his investigation with every available Justice Department resource at his disposal, and today’s principal conclusions assure every American there was no collusion between Russia and Donald Trump or his campaign. Russia is a bad actor with dark intentions, but there is no evidence that they compromised a presidential nominee. The special counsel’s investigation was long, thorough and conclusive: There was no collusion. There is no constitutional crisis. As the report states, ‘the evidence does not establish that the President was involved in an underlying crime related to Russian election interference.’ ”

Collins says he supports a bi-partisan call for transparency in releasing the full report to Congress and the American people. Collins, who represents Georgia’s 9th district which includes Habersham, is also calling on the House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) to “rethink” the committee’s “sprawling investigation” which Colllins says “retreads ground already covered by the special counsel and is already a matter of public record.”

“I hope he recognizes that what may be political fodder for Democrats may not be good for our country,” Collins says.

On obstruction of justice, Mueller’s investigation did not conclude the President committed a crime, but it also did not exonerate him. The report left that conclusion to the Department of Justice. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded that the evidence developed by Mueller “is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.”
