The cold weather shelter at First Baptist Church in Cornelia remains open to help shield those who need it from the harsh winter weather. The shelter opened on Thursday and will remain open until this latest winter blast passes.
Shelter manager Bobby Tyler says the shelter has only been open at night since Thursday because daytime temperatures have been above freezing. That is likely to change as temperatures plummet due to an Arctic cold front now sweeping through the region.
For more information about the shelter, to donate or volunteer, call First Baptist Church of Cornelia during normal business hours at 706-778-4412. After hours, call Pastor Eric Spivey at 706-499-9999.
