First Baptist Church of Cornelia is keeping its doors – and its heart – open to those seeking refuge from the bitterly cold weather. The church opened a cold weather shelter on Thursday. It will remain open through lunchtime on Saturday.
Pastor Eric Spivey says three people stayed in the shelter Wednesday night. Two more came Thursday. Volunteers from FBC’s congregation helped prepare meals and provided activities for them.
The shelter is an outreach ministry the church started last year during the cold/snow wave of January 2013. Spivey says the church is now in the process of re-certifying as an emergency Red Cross shelter. He says FBC Cornelia also has blankets and coats for those who need them.
First Baptist Church of Cornelia is located at 325 Oak Street in Cornelia, Georgia.
