Coan “memory book relay” launches today in Toccoa

Family, friends and fans encouraged to show their support for Paralympian swimmer from Clarkesville

As USA Paralympian swimmer McKenzie Coan prepares for next month’s Paralympic Games in Rio, her family, friends and fans are coming together to celebrate her achievements.

Toccoa Clinic will launch a “memory book relay” in her honor today in Toccoa. The public is invited to stop by Paul Anderson Memorial Park on East Tugalo Street between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. to sign the special book and meet McKenzie’s parents, Dr. & Mrs. Marc Coan of Clarkesville.

The memory book, with brief handwritten messages of support and encouragement for McKenzie, will travel to Toccoa Clinic’s satellite clinics in Clayton, Lavonia, Clarkesville and Demorest and to other locations in the region by request. If you’re interested in hosting the memory book at your worksite, call Deborah Gibby at 706-282-5234. The book will be given to Coan during a community celebration and homecoming when she returns from Rio in mid-September.

About McKenzie and The Games

Coan holds American Paralympic swimming records in the backstroke, butterfly and freestyle competitions and currently attends Loyola University in Maryland. She competed in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
