An 83-year-old Cleveland woman was killed Wednesday when a garbage truck ran into the side of the car she was riding in.
The accident happened on US 129 at the intersection of Albert Reid Road north of Cleveland. Betsy Marquis was a passenger in a Ford Focus that was struck on the passenger side by a Waste Management truck that failed to yield at a stop sign, according to authorities.
Marquis died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, identified as 30-year-old Jeremy Dooley of Washington, Georgia, told authorities that his brakes failed. Charges are pending.
The driver of the Ford Focus, 56-year-old Dayna Neal of Buford, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
