Roy Holbrook of Cleveland surveys the damage in his yard caused by the Monday’s late afternoon storm.
The storms that came through Monday afternoon had some very strong winds and did quite a bit of damage. Although most of the reported damage was around Clarkesville, Tammy and Roy Holbrook of Cleveland, along with their neighbors, got a firsthand look at just how much destruction those strong winds can create.
Fortunately no one was home when the storm hit, but when they did arrive it was a sight to behold. One tree uprooted and laying across their front porch, dozens of trees down and another eight were topped. Luckily the freshly painted house had not been badly damaged, and their pet birds, in cages on the carport, were unharmed.
The tree next to their shed got topped but the shed remained undamaged as the tree top hung upside down above it. Tammy told of the neighbor and her son who had been home at the time. They were outside painting picture frames when the storm arrived. As the sky turned dark and the winds picked up, they took cover inside in the bathroom until the storm passed. Afterwards they returned outdoors but were unable to find the picture frames. The strong winds had carried them away.
Relieved that no one was injured and that there was little damage to the structures, Roy plans to do most of the cleanup himself. He says, “God said there would be storms, but He would see his followers through them.”
