The City of Cleveland has reorganized the Cleveland Building Authority. The authority was created in 2022 and consists of two members of the city council, one member of the city planning commission, and two residents of Cleveland who are appointed by the city council.

The authority has not had a reason to meet for a while but Cleveland City Administrator Kevin Harris said during a meeting Tuesday, the authority may be needed to assist with some possible city projects like the upgrade of the city’s wastewater facilities.

The authority may acquire, construct, equip, maintain, and operate certain projects for use by the City of Cleveland for its governmental, proprietary, public, and administrative functions. The authority is authorized to provide by resolution to issue revenue bonds.

The Cleveland Building Authority members are; Mayor Josh Turner and Councilman CJ McDonald along with Jeff Groves from the City Planning Commission and city council appointees, Bradley McDuffie and Garrett Herold.

Herold was elected as Chairman of the authority and McDuffie the Vice-Chair during their meeting this week. Authority members are not compensated for their service on the board.

Also during the meeting, it was discussed the authority may set quarterly meeting dates, if needed. It may hold called meetings, when necessary.

The city council authorized $7,500 in funding when the authority was created.
