Site plan for new multi-use development in Cleveland.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – A proposed development that will include medical offices, a senior living facility, and a boutique-type hotel is one step closer to being built following action by the Cleveland Planning and Zoning Board.

In a meeting Thursday, the board considered the application from DLBP LLC on behalf of Grace of Georgia Developments LLC, which requested annexation and re-zoning for approximately 27.19 acres across from Walmart on Donald E Thurmond Parkway.  The property is located just outside the city limits.

Earlier in the week, the White County Board of Commissioners approved allowing the land to be annexed into the city, where necessary water and sewer services are available.

During the Feb. 27 Planning and Zoning meeting, Cleveland Economic Development and Planning Director Tom O’Bryant outlined the planned development, and Dominic Lawson, President of DLBP LLC., who represented the applicant,t answered questions from the board.

After hearing the information, the Planning and Zoning Board voted unanimously to approve the annexation request and the zoning change from A-1, Agriculture Forestry District, to PM-U, Planned Mixed Use District.

Planning and Zoning Board Chair Nadine Wardenga said the applicant met all of their requirements: “They were very prepared. All of our questions were answered, and I think it’s going to be a good thing for the City of Cleveland,” she said.

Wardenga said the Planning and Zoning Board will now submit its recommendation to the Cleveland City Council. Council members have the final vote on whether the development goes through. Their next meeting is set for March 10.
