Patients at Gateway Health & Rehab in Cleveland were evacuated early Sunday after a fire broke out inside an air-conditioning unit, according to a press release from White County Public Safety.

911 Dispatch sent emergency units to the nursing home on Westmoreland Road shortly after 8 a.m. on July 28. A 911 caller reported fire was coming from an AC unit and was contained to one room.

According to officials, staff immediately began evacuating the building. When firefighters arrived, the fire was already extinguished. Fire personnel checked out the building and ventilated it to clear the smoke. Once the building was cleared, residents were allowed to return to their rooms.

There were no reports of any injuries.

White County Fire, EMS, and sheriff’s deputies responded to the call, and the Cleveland Fire Department provided mutual aid.
