Cleveland, Ga. — Following a 3-2 vote by the Cleveland City Council Monday night, the city will move forward with trying to sell the old Talon property.

The city purchased the property in 2011 for future city offices and public safety facilities but recently decided it has too much rock to construct the facilities it would like to build.

In a called meeting on April 26 this year, the council voted 3-1 to request proposals for brokerage services to dispose of the 10.68-acre tract on Campbell Street.

Last week, the city unsealed three bids they received from brokerage firms in Atlanta, Blairsville, and Cleveland.

The Cleveland proposal was from Alco Realty, and the Atlanta firm was Horizon Property; both proposed a six percent commission fee when the property sells.

The Blairsville proposal was from Ken Baker Real Estate, which asked for a 10 percent commission.

City Administrator Kevin Harris recommended that the council choose Alco Realty. Not only were they among the low bidders, but they also know the local market, he said.

Following a motion by council member CJ McDonald and a second by Jeremy McClure, those two voted in favor, with council members Annie Sutton and Nan Bowen voting no. With that split vote, Mayor Josh Turner voted to break the tie, and the motion passed.

Harris said they will begin working immediately with Alco Realty to get the property on the market.
