Cleveland man faces homicide charge from wreck that killed retired White County fire captain

A Cleveland man has been charged with homicide by vehicle (second-degree) after he allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic moments before a multi-vehicle wreck in mid-October killed a former White County fire captain and injured several others.

J.B. Ramey, 84, was airlifted by medical helicopter to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville after the Oct. 14 wreck, which shut down north and southbound lanes of GA. 365 for over two hours. Ramey died about a week later from his injuries.

Police say Anthony Ray Holland, 69, of Cleveland, was the driver of a gray 2024 Ford F-150 that made a left turn toward Duncan Bridge Road on a yellow flashing traffic signal. Holland then allegedly traveled into the path of an oncoming southbound vehicle, causing a series of collisions.

Authorities believe the oncoming vehicle struck the passenger side of the F-150 where Ramey was seated – which caused potentially fatal injuries.

Holland turned himself into the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 29 with bond set at $18,900.
