Cleveland man charged with 8 counts of child sexual exploitation

A 33-year-old Cleveland man remains in jail following his arrest last week on alleged child cybersex crimes.

GBI agents arrested William Chase Ellis on August 25 during a statewide crackdown on child cybersex crimes dubbed ‘Operation Sneaky Peach.’ They charged him with eight counts of child sexual exploitation.

Ellis was among 26 suspects arrested during Operation Sneaky Peach. The GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led the multi-jurisdictional operation, which involved 24 other local, state, and federal agencies.

Following his arrest, Ellis was booked at the White County Detention Center, where he remained as of Thursday morning, August 31. A magistrate judge set his bond at $20,000.

In addition to Ellis, agents arrested four others in Northeast Georgia, including:

  • Russell Summerville, age 38, of Athens, Georgia (Clarke County)
  • Douglas Strong, age 64, of Auburn, Georgia (Barrow County)
  • Paul Angel, age 70, of Danielsville, Georgia (Madison County)
  • Trent Bailey, age 33, of Hartwell, Georgia (Hart County)
