The Whitehall Commons and Whitehall Manor, both workforce and affordable housing units in Cleveland, are in need of renovations, and the owner has asked the Cleveland Downtown Development Authority for help in obtaining financing for that project.
The Cleveland Downtown Development Authority met on Thursday and heard a request from David Williams, an attorney who represents Paces Foundation, the owner of the facilities.
Williams told the authority that they are asking them to assist in getting tax-exempt municipal revenue bonds. This is the first step in a long process that could take a year before renovations of the senior living and regular housing units can get underway.
The Paces Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing and services for low-income residents.
No dollar amount was given for the renovation cost —that will come later —but the Cleveland Downtown Development Authority gave its unanimous approval to assist in the project, which will see improvements to a total of 112 units.
The bond funding will not obligate the DDA or the city in any way, just provide a conduit for Paces Foundation to obtain the funding.
DDA Board Chairman Gary Adkins said that these are the people who originally built the units back in 2009. “It’s good to work with people like that,” commented Adkins.
