The Cleveland City Council will hold a public hearing next week to discuss the formation of a city building authority.

The council is exploring ways to finance the expected building of a new municipal complex. During Monday night’s council meeting, council members heard a detailed report from Tred Syfan, with the law firm of Stewart, Melvin, and Frost in Gainesville, about municipal bond financing and the need to create a City of Cleveland Building Authority as part of the process.

Following Syfan’s presentation, the council approved a resolution declaring the need for the building authority and requesting that State Senator Steve Gooch sponsor legislation to authorize it.

A public hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, at the Cleveland Community Center.
