(Cleveland) – The Cleveland City Council Monday night approved a new Fiscal Year budget for the city that calls for just over $4.1 million in general fund expenditures.
City Administrator Kevin Harris noted that this was a 7.67% increase over the previous year’s budget. Harris contributed most of the budget increase to inflation.
“Absolutely inflation and the cost of the general economy primarily lead to the increases, we had to make minimal upgrades,” Harris said.
The Cleveland Police Department saw the largest increase.
The approval of the new budget came following a second public hearing on the issue and will become effective July first.
The council also approved pursuing a $125,000 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant. The three-year grant program would require the city to provide a 25% match. The matching funds are included in the just-approved budget.
The council approved an updated Automatic Aid Agreement between the city of Cleveland Fire Department and White County Fire Department. The agreement outlines how the two agencies work with each other on fire calls.
