Exploring Fort Hollingsworth–White House

Constructed around 1793 by Jacob Hollingsworth, Fort Hollingsworth served as a protective stronghold for settlers during a time when the area was part of the Cherokee Nation. The fort was a response to the uncertainties and conflicts of the frontier era, providing shelter and defense for early inhabitants. Over time, the structure transitioned into a family residence, notably housing the White family, and has been preserved to reflect its historical significance.

Today, Fort Hollingsworth stands as a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of early American settlers. Visitors can explore the original fort structure, the adjoining 19th-century farmhouse, and various outbuildings that offer insights into the daily lives of those who once called this place home .

Trip Details and Participation

The field trip is open to all history enthusiasts and community members interested in learning more about Georgia’s rich past. Participants are encouraged to contribute a $5 donation, which will aid in the ongoing maintenance and educational programs of Fort Hollingsworth.
