Two Clayton residents face drug trafficking charges after deputies say they found more than a pound of cocaine in their possession during a traffic stop.
A release from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Abraham Montiel was pulled over by two K9 deputies while driving north on GA 15/US 441 near the River Falls Campground at around 4 p.m. Thursday, May 9. While one deputy was speaking with Montiel, the other noticed a 69-year-old woman slumped back in her passenger seat. The sheriff’s release says a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the car.
According to the sheriff’s office, Montiel gave consent for the car to be searched. Deputies say several baggies and a large bag suspected of cocaine were found inside the vehicle. The suspected cocaine weighed 1 pound 3 ounces.
Deputies arrested and charged Montiel and the woman, Deborah Sir, with trafficking cocaine. They were taken to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.
“This outstanding work by our K9 team shows the agency’s continued effort to eliminate drugs from our community,” said Sheriff Chad Nichols.
