State Troopers have charged a Clayton man with first-degree vehicular homicide in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death earlier this month of another local man.
24-year-old Chantz R. Ramey is charged in the death of 26-year-old Mario Webb of Clayton.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Ramey was driving a Ford F-150 north on Main Street/Old US 441 near Dunlap Street around 5 o’clock on the morning of August 8th. At the same time, Webb, who was walking, was attempting to cross Main Street. Ramey’s truck struck Webb, fatally injuring him.
Ramey drove away from the scene of the accident. He turned himself in to authorities at the Rabun County jail Friday night, August 21, according to Sgt. Casey Coffee of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.
Post 7 troopers, along with the Troop B Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and Rabun County Sheriffs’ deputies are investigating the incident.
Coffee says, “Other charges will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.”
In May 2017, Ramey was one of two individuals arrested by the Clayton Police Department on methamphetamine charges and active warrants and was also later charged with felony probation violation, ConnectLocal News reports.
