Clarkesville woman killed in Turnerville wreck

fatal accident

A wreck Wednesday evening on Historic Highway 441 in Turnerville claimed the life of a 33-year-old Clarkesville woman.

A report by the Georgia State Patrol says Shelby Stonecypher was driving a Volvo XC90 SUV south on 441 at a high rate of speed. She lost control of the vehicle and ran off the east shoulder of the road, striking a large tree head-on. The vehicle vaulted, then struck a second tree before overturning onto the driver’s side.

Troopers from state patrol post 7 in Toccoa investigated the crash. They say Stonecypher was not wearing a seatbelt. She sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The wreck was reported at 7:43 p.m. at 2676 Historic Highway 441, just south of Panther Creek Lane.
