Authorities have identified the woman killed in Wednesday’s wreck in Mt. Airy as 27-year old Kendra Dover of Clarkesville. Dover’s body was found in a wrecked Honda Passport in the woods off Highway 365 just south of Cody Road.
Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire says Dover “passed away from injuries sustained in the automobile accident.” He says it appears she died instantly.
Trooper Jason Stephens of the Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa reports Dover was driving north on GA 365 when her Honda ran off the road, struck a guardrail and ran down an embankment. The vehicle overturned and struck several large trees.
The wreck was called in to 911 around 2 p.m. Wednesday but the investigation revealed Dover likely crashed between midnight and 4:30 a.m. Trooper Stephens pieced together the timeline based on statements from drivers who saw the damaged guardrail in the pre-dawn hours of June 17. The wreck went unreported for 12-14 hours because it could not be seen from the road. GSP Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson says the delay in locating the wreck likely had no impact on the outcome because Dover suffered severe injuries and, as confirmed by the coroner, likely died on impact. McEntire says, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dover family.”
The investigation into what caused the accident continues.
