Clarkesville to host inaugural Sip and Stroll

Clarkesville Main Street and local merchants invite you to enjoy an evening of sipping and shopping while strolling the streets of downtown. The inaugural Clarkesville Sip & Stroll will take place on Thursday, June 7th from 6-8pm in the historic downtown square.

Wine & Beer will be available at dozens of participating shops along the downtown square, and a beer truck featuring all local brews will be located at Greene Plaza.

This unique event focuses on our local downtown businesses and our quaint community.

“The goal of the Sip and Stroll is to introduce people to the businesses that maybe they haven’t been into before, maybe they didn’t realize existed before or maybe they were just nervous to approach,” said Mary Beth Horton, Clarkesville Economic Development Director. “This gives them an excuse to experience something new that maybe they’ll return to later.”

Attendees will start at Greene Plaza where they can purchase admission to the event for $10. Admission includes a souvenir “Sip Cup,” one drink ticket, a wrist band and a map of all the businesses that are participating.   Live entertainment will be at Greene Plaza and throughout various downtown restaurants.

The Sip and Stroll coincides with the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) which is set to bring over 1200 bicyclists through downtown that same day.  According to Horton, the aim of the Sip and Stroll is two-fold:   to welcome these visitors to downtown and to create a festival feel while maintaining a cohesive community.

Taste of Clarkesville’s beer garden and wine tastings have always been very popular, and they decided to extrapolate that idea out into the whole business community.

“Our downtown wouldn’t be the same without our incredible local shops, galleries and restaurants,” Horton explained. “Here people will have the chance to snag a local deal while sipping some wine or beer!   It’s a new concept for us, but one we really believe will become very popular.”

Participating businesses include:  Erin London, Erwin Rush, Once Upon a Time Antiques, Personalize It Boutique, Rahab’s Rope, Rare Bird Studio, Remington Holliday, The Attic Restaurant, The Copper Pot Restaurant, The Market on Washington, The Pet Shop, Tinder’s Food & Spirits, WildBerry Cottage and Your Pie.
