The City of Clarkesville will meet Monday to discuss the city’s proposed golf cart ordinance and the possibility of bringing pickleball courts to the city.
Council members have discussed the golf cart ordinance off-and-on since the summer of 2020. The ordinance would allow citizens to use golf carts for transportation on city streets.
The city planned to hold a public hearing surrounding the golf cart ordinance before their April meeting, which drew strong reactions from constituents. Now Habersham was not made aware of that public hearing, which took place on March 16.

City Manager Keith Dickerson said at the council’s March meeting that the city has been conducting various speed studies, and has found that traffic-wise and speed-wise, the majority of the city’s roads are safe for golf cart traffic. While a few speed bumps may be an addition to the city’s infrastructure that will help slow down traffic in some more concerning spots, if the public is interested, the council believes the ordinance could be put in place.
Onto local recreation, pickleball courts could make their way to Clarkesville.
The council has had some discussions in the past surrounding bringing pickleball courts to the city, and is scheduled to talk about that possibility again on Monday. The council has considered the park on Mary Street, which the city is updating, as a potential home for those courts.
The city’s work session will begin at 5:00 p.m., immediately followed by their meeting, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Clarkesville City Hall. To view the full agenda, click here.
